We started Thanksgiving with a local Turkey Trot 5K, where I took third in my age group. (Nice!) There’s a picture of me accepting my award from a guy in a turkey costume, but I was unable to find it. Uncle Paul joined us later in the day for a nice dinner. I got a free turkey from our grocery store (apparently I spent enough money to qualify) so we picked up the whole bird instead of just the breast as I’ve done in years past. Jared put butter and rosemary under the skin and bacon on top. “That’s all you need for a delicious bird,” says my brother. Turns out he was exactly right. It was awesome! I even had a successful attempt at making my mom’s gravy. We also had sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and Uncle Paul brought cranberry relish. Delicious on all accounts! Should have taken a picture of the three of us, but getting the tripod out while the food was hot sounded like a bad idea…
Surprise #1 – Kari and Bill’s Shower/Engagement Party
On November 3rd, I asked Kari to stop by our house on their way to another party. She was pretty confused when 25 people were waiting for her at my house.
The kids had a great time too.
I prepared a ton of food, and then peeps brought even more. Here is just a small part of what we had that night.
I also made favors. They were rice crispy treats with yellow cake mix and I used a buttered cookie cutter and blue sprinkles to make them look like snowflakes. It was a pretty fun night, and a successful surprise.
Surprise #2 – Jason’s 30th Birthday
After our self imposed moratorium on travel for the 4 weekends in November, we found super cheap tickets to Phoenix on Southwest and couldn’t pass on the invitation to be part of Jason’s surprise 30th birthday party. Not to mention, we got to meet eight week old Anthony Christopher. Unfortunately, this is the only picture we got of the kid. Shame on us!
Jared, Jason, and Lou spent the day doing man-tivites which Melissa had successfully convinced Jason was his birthday present.
It was a surprise when Jason came home to 25+ people in his house. Meli went all out here, getting the best BBQ and cupcakes in town!
Again, another amazing weekend with amazing friends. We are pretty lucky to have all of these great people in our lives.
Right now we are looking forward to going back to Ohio for Christmas and spending some quality time with our parents.
Until next time,
