This week two completed items emerged from the underground wood shop. The first is a rocking cradle for our coming child, who at the moment is about mid way through the transformation from ameba to human. The cradle is made from black cherry with spindles of curly maple. Turning the spindles was my first lathe project since a failed attempt to turn chess pieces in high school shop class. I’m very pleased with how it turned out. Hopefully baby finds it comfortable.
The second item is an ebony handled scribe/awl I made for a fellow who kindly fabricated a replacement spindle lock for my long obsolete Delta lathe. My first time working with ebony and it was a treat.
Now i’m hard at work on a full size crib for the nursery, which should be the last major project before delivery. The clock is ticking…
