MD Shower and Nursery Update

Maryland Shower

A few weekends ago my mom flew out from Ohio and my cousin drove in from Jersey to join our Maryland friends and celebrate this whole baby making thing.  The three gracious hosts Kari, Emily, and Keller did an AMAZING job.  The theme was “Look Whoooo’s having a baby” with owls everywhere.  I cannot say enough how lucky we are to be blessed with so many great friends and family.  Here are some pictures from the day.

I met all of these girls while working for the Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center. I cannot say enough about this amazing bunch.

We are lucky enough to have some super crafty peeps in our circle of friends. This homemade gift is from our 83 year old neighbor Betty.

My favorite part of any party. Notice the owl theme and the advantages of a shower during MD's strawberry season. YUM!

Nursery Update

In February I alluded to a few outstanding nursery projects.  I’m happy to report that the floors have been refinished, the accordion style door has been replaced by a real door, the air conditioning vent has been painted, the crib has been built and is in place, a glider has been purchased (awesome score on Craigslist), and we decided to forgo the wall decal.  Whew!

Glider that we scored on Craigslist. The very cool wreath was made by Kari. Thank you!! After the kid is born, we will probably add a framed picture to the wall on the right.

The last time I wrote, I was talking about making some book shelves.  For both showers, guests were encouraged to buy books in lieu of cards.  The results were overwhelming!!  With a design in mind, Jared and I purchased some pine at the Depot; he ripped it to the right width, put the fancy bead on the front edge using a hand plane (of course!), and nailed it together.  I filled the holes, sanded all of the edges and gave it a good painting.  We’ve had issues with latex painting remaining tacky forever, so we added a top coat of clear wood finish that we had left over from the cabinets.  It seems to have done the trick!  Without further ado…

Our DIY bookshelves. We hung them low enough so that once baby is showing some independence, he/she can reach the bottom shelf.

I’m now officially full term and looking forward to meeting our little one!

Great pictures. The girls did an awesome job and so much talent. All we need now is that baby! We will be bringing gifts from the Ohio shower next week. Hope you are feeling well and will see you soon.
